September Backyard Popup Party
Summer was hot in Salt Lake City this year. We're talking 101 degree days at the farmers market. So when we had a nice little break in September with somewhat cool evenings, we leaped at the chance to throw a Mozdykuchen wine & food pairing party in our backyard. Sixteen friends joined us for a night full of fortified wines paired with Spanish-influenced foods prepared by yours truly. Each dish, of course, also starred a different variety of Mozdykuchen.
Suzanne and I honeymooned in Spain five years ago, and that's where I fell in love with sherry (she had already fallen in love with it!). Our dinner featured several sherries, a madeira, and a tawny port, and we talked to our guests about each of them as we all tasted.
We had a blast, and even enjoyed a late-night campfire in the fire pit with some of our more intrepid guests. Many thanks to Suzanne, of course, but also our friend Lynn Kilpatrick who helped plate, serve, and clean up, and the brilliant Austen Diamond, who took all of these beautiful photographs (hire him for your next event!).
